It’s exactly what it describes. A one-off session with a non-judgemental, expert therapist that is highly trained to help you gain clarity, a new perspective, and enlighten you on the issue quickly. You may also gain strategies to help you manage the situation that’s troubling you.
If you have a specific issue you would like to talk through with someone who is independent of the problem, with no hidden agenda and who is trained to identify psychological triggers that may be hindering you solving the issue on your own, then Single Session Therapy could help you.
It’s a proactive method of managing, rather than reactively responding to, a difficulty you are already aware of.
When you enquire about Single Session Therapy with our Referral Team, they will help you identify if we can meet your expectations with just one session.
If so, you will be asked to complete some questions giving the therapist a little background prior to the session. As it is a single session, the dialogue between you and the therapist needs to be very focussed on the issue in hand. It might be useful to establish what you feel you hope to come away with to make the time spent, well spent, and of value to you.
At your appointment you and your therapist can work together to form an alliance from where you can explore what is going on for you, how the problem developed, what is keeping it going, and what you wish to be different.
The therapist will provide guidance and resources for you, sometimes to take away and implement on your own, so it’s most effective when you come prepared with realistic thoughts of what you want to achieve from the session. Together with your therapist, you will identify what the objectives of the session are and focus on trying to reach a solution that genuinely helps you.
