Anxiety
Feeling generally uneasy? Have mild worries or even severe fears? We all suffer from a degree of anxiety at some point in life, whether it’s triggered by exams, job interviews or a medical test. It’s just part of modern life. If you’re finding it hard to control your worries and anxiety is affecting your daily life, talk to Head Agenda. We can help you cope with anything from panic disorders and phobias to post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and social anxiety disorder (social phobia).
Are you restless, worried, have trouble concentrating, sleeping or have dizzy spells and heart palpitations? If this is long-term, you could be suffering from generalised anxiety disorder (GAD). Around 5% of the population suffer from GAD and are anxious most days – in fact, they’re rarely relaxed. Whilst psychotherapy can often help, you should also consider making an appointment with your GP if it’s affecting your daily life or causing you distress.
Relationships
Let’s be realistic. Life isn’t always a bed of roses. When you’ve been living with someone day in, day out, no matter how much you love them, relationships can feel the strain. Rather than letting familiarity breed contempt, together, you can face your difficulties with the help of Head Agenda. Think of our counsellors as a bridge that helps you connect with your partner’s world. We’ll help you talk about your emotions honestly. Help you talk about the difficult stuff – past experiences, significant people, behaviour and any difficulties.
Couples therapy sessions usually last 50 minutes, are totally confidential and completely non-judgemental. Head Agenda therapists are fair and will give you both ‘air time’. We’ll help you understand each other and how you can meet each other’s emotional needs. Together, we’ll help you address your differences and suggest changes to make your relationship happier and more fulfilling. You’ll be surprised. You’ll actually enjoy it. Investing in your relationship can help you see things in a different way and help you move forward.
Depression
We all feel a bit down for a few days every now and again. Depression is different. It’s where you’re persistently sad for weeks or months on end. It’s not a case of pulling yourself together, it’s a real illness with real symptoms that affects 1 in 10 of us. If you suffer from depression, you need qualified help, treatment and support.
If you feel unhappy, hopeless, tired, stressed, anxious, tearful and have lost interest in the things you usually enjoy, including sex, you may suffer from mild, moderate or severe depression. There are several types too including Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), Dysthymia (persistent depressive disorder or chronic depression), Prenatal and Postnatal Depression (PND). All can be helped with either Head Agenda therapy or by seeing your GP.
Anger Management
It’s natural to get upset about things, however, at the other end of the scale, anger can cause problems at home and work. It can ruin relationships too. If you’re on the receiving end of anger, it can be anything from worrying to terrifying, especially if children are involved. You may even hide your anger and take it out on yourself.
Warning signs can be physical, mental or changes in behaviour. Do you have a faster heartbeat, tense muscles, clenching fists, a tight chest or feel hot? Are you irritated, nervous, unable to relax, feel humiliated or resentful? Do you shout, ignore people, sulk, start fights, break things or self-harm? Head Agenda Anger Management therapy helps you to understand anger. We give you effective techniques for dealing with it that create a more balanced life for you and others around you.
Trauma
Trauma, in some cases referred to as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), can have a dramatic effect on not only yourself but also your relationships. It’s not a condition that just affects adults, too. Traumatic experiences at an early age, such as sexual abuse, neglect, exposure to domestic violence, and traumatic loss or bereavement are commonplace. Whether you’re an adult or if you’ve a child that is traumatised, Professional Head Agenda psychotherapy, combined with practical, emotional and social support from family and friends, can help you recover, grieve and move forward in life.
Emotions you might experience due to trauma range from fear, anxiety, helplessness and fatigue to anger, nightmares, flashbacks and avoidance of where the trauma occurred. These are all perfectly normal feelings which, with the help of an experienced Head Agenda therapist, will reduce over time.
